Najeeb Omar is the recipient of the IAP Design Excellence Award 2009, residential category. The residence of Mr. and Mrs. Mahmood was chosen the winner with the following citation:

“The jury found rich qualities of architectural design and space planning in an urban site with no topography and little character. The introverted courtyard design has an elegant flow of transition spaces supplemented by excellent landscaping providing its own views from the rooms. The natural indigenous materials have been used with creativity and traditional grace. The living spaces are located at ground level while bedrooms are at the upper level to maintain privacy. The visitor is taken through a series of courtyards well adorned with outdoor art perfectly suiting our cultural concepts and presenting a unity in space color and texture and in harmony with nature”.

Architect Najeeb Omar work ethics speak volumes about his work, he chooses his clients and works on his self-set principles; clients, who share the vision of preferred living, as conceived by the architect himself, get their houses built. The architect works on a few projects at a time and doesn’t stretch his boundaries of project intake, thus giving more time to less work rather than vice versa. The attitude shows in his work quite conspicuously, Najeeb Omar’s houses are nothing like the everyday architect-designed-houses.
